GLAD - Under Milk Wood – Rehearsed Reading - Thursday 16th April

One of the activities we have been considering for GLAD members for some time now is that of rehearsed readings. The idea of a rehearsed reading is that members can involve themselves in a play or part of a play without the need to learn lines or actions. Participants sit around with a copy of the script and act out the roles. This would not be a performance before an audience but just for the actors themselves and any GLAD members who wish to come along and listen. Those who wish to take an acting part will be given a copy of the script ahead of the event to enable them to become familiar with it but with no need to learn any lines.

It is hoped to run these rehearsed readings on a regular basis and any recommendations of future pieces/scripts would be welcomed.

The first play to get the rehearsed reading treatment is Dylan Thomas’s Under Milk Wood.

There are many, many parts in this play, both male and female, and, as it was conceived for radio, lends itself well to the rehearsed reading process.

The reading will take place in St. Anne’s Church Hall on Thursday 16th April stating at 7.30. There will be a charge of £1 for those attending to cover the cost of hall hire. Anyone wishing to take an acting part in this reading please contact Frank Goodman ( Anyone wanting to come along and watch can just turn up on the night.

It has been decided, with some regret, to postpone the production of the Vampyre until 2015.

The problems we have encountered with performers being unable to commit to the tight rehearsal schedule has made it clear to us that the production could not be brought to a satisfactory finished state in time for the planned performance dates.

Michele, Frank and the committee would like to thank all of you who have given your time so far to the production. We saw that there were many good things emerging from the rehearsals and that you were really enjoying taking part.

We are sorry we had to take this decision but we want GLAD productions to reflect the best in us and at this time we felt that we couldn't do justice to that aim.

We will keep you informed of developments.
